Local Fun For All This Fall and Winter Season

The weather is finally cooling down! Now is the perfect time to get outdoors and make some

memories this fall and all the way through the holiday season. Here are a few local spots and

events that are family and handicap-friendly, accessible for all. 

 

The DoSeum

The DoSeum is more than just indoor learning and fun. Did you know that the DoSeum offers

39,000 sq. feet of beautiful outdoor exhibit space called The Big Outdoors? It’s like a museum

within a park! The Big Outdoors is divided into two yards: The West Yard and The East Yard.

The West Yard is an active outdoor zone, with large-scale exhibit features where kids can get

active while learning. The East Yard is sensory-friendly, a quiet zone that draws focus to

stories and quiet exploration of the environment. 

Special Event: Free Family Nights (The first Tuesday of the month from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30

p.m.) Community First Health Plans sponsors Free Family Nights at the DoSeum. Enjoy the

DoSeum - for free - the first Tuesday of every month. A link for ticket reservations will be

posted on the Doseum website at 8 a.m. on the morning of Free Family Night.

Morgan’s Wonderland

Morgan’s Wonderland offers 25 Ultra-Accessible™ attractions, sprawled across a 25-acre

oasis of inclusion. From a wheelchair-accessible Ferris wheel to catch-and-release fishing,

there is truly something for everyone to enjoy! Morgan’s Wonderland is the first theme park

designed where everyone can play and we’re lucky enough to have it right here in our

backyard.

Special Event: Wonderland Christmas (Select nights from November 26 through December

3.) During the holiday season, the park transforms into a winter wonderland with holiday

shows, Christmas light displays, pictures with Santa, and more. Guests can enjoy hot cocoa

and warm cookies as they explore the park and enjoy their favorite rides and attractions. 

Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair

Yanaguana Garden at Hemisfair is a beautifully landscaped outdoor wonderland for kids and

adults of all ages and abilities. Designed to be an inclusive space and following the American

Disabilities Act standards for public playgrounds, amenities include a wheelchair accessible

sand table sponsored by Community First Health Plans. Other adaptive play equipment allows

wheelchair users and little ones to join in on the playground fun. Visit hemisfair.org for a list of

San Antonio Botanical Garden

 The Botanical Garden’s tranquil 38 acres are filled with greenery, native plants, beautiful

flowers, and water features for the whole family to enjoy. Wide walkways are perfect for

running, strolling, and wheelchairs. Have a picnic, roll on the grassy hills, and enjoy garden

events like Storytime in the Garden and Family Flashlight Night. 

Special Event: Lightscape (November 19 through January 2) A new holiday magical light

display set along a beautifully illuminated one-mile path winding through the Botanical

Garden.
