Resource Spotlight: Special Kids Care
A young mother and father prepared to take their child home from the hospital for the first time, only their story was different than most. Their child had been born with special needs, and required a ventilator, feeding tube, and oxygen to survive at home. The child would also require around the clock nursing care. This story happens every day across the United States, and it’s up to a select few to give them the best life possible outside of a hospital.
To help fill that need, Special Kids Care opened in San Antonio in 2001 and over the last 17 years has become a leader in the pediatric home care community. In addition to tenured administrative staff, there are several field nurses that have been with Special Kids Care for over a decade. SKC has had employees attend visits in Austin and in Washington DC to speak directly with legislators to better the lives of all children.
