Kenny, an Inspiring Story
Here is a story about Kenny, our longtime patient and an inspiring young man. This story is taken from interviews by Mom, Gigi Hudnall, Dad, David Hudnall, Kenny Hudnall, Rodney Gray, Owner of Wave Healthcare and Shannon Hardy, RRT Wave Healthcare’s Director of Clinical Operations.
Gigi - Kenny was a regular normal rambunctious 5-year-old. We were in a car accident and at the time he was completely paralyzed from the neck down, it was really rough and we were in the hospital for about 5 months. I first was introduced to Wave Health care in the hospital. Rodney the owner was there with us. He was a godsend.
Rodney - Wave healthcare is a pediatric DME company that really specializes in the higher tech devises in transitioning children from the hospital home.
Shannon - DME stands for durable medical equipment, so it is a category of medical equipment that is used in the home setting.
Rodney - We work with some amazing therapists here at Wave who build care plans around each child. They become part of that family’s life, on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Shannon - Our clinicians are thoroughly trained on all of the equipment that we have so we are educating the families how to respond to emergency situations. We also advocate for the parents and the patients to get whatever medical equipment they need to ensure that the patient is taken care of.
Gigi - Rodney knew what we needed before we even knew what we needed and helped us check all the boxes and make sure that we had everything. Because he was a respiratory therapist, he knew all the stuff that Kenny was going to need. Wave not only gave us all of our equipment and supplies and stuff but then taught us how to use it.
Rodney - As a therapist you always wonder once they go out that door, how they are doing? They’ve got a lot on their plate when their child is going home on a ventilator.
Shannon - We will not just drop it off. We will go through every piece of equipment with you we are always behind you. I love empowering these families to take on that responsibility and once you finally see them you can tell that they realize that they can do this. It’s, very special.
David - Kenny is a miracle and we are grateful every day that he is here with us. We still see him improving we still see things happening.
Gigi - I am very proud of the fact that he graduated, he was in the National Honor Society, and he’s going on to college.
David - Rodney and the staff at Wave have really been instrumental, in helping us get to where we are today.
Kenny - Having the support from everyone around me has really helped me cope with the extreme change that came and helped me to stay strong and live my life.
